Neighbourhood Watch & local information

Read about current alerts and updates

This is the site of the Neighbourhood Watch in the lower part of St James's Park, Bath.  The 'latest alerts' section on this page contains some of the recent Police crime alerts we have received, and other local news. For further details, or to request a Neighbourhood Watch or No Cold Calling window sticker, or if you have any other comments, contact us. We are part of the Avon & Somerset Neighbourhood Watch Association. Other pages contain general information about crime prevention, and some information about the local area.

If any one in the street needs help with shopping please contact us as help is available.  The Compassionate Community hub helpline (for use by the vulnerable) is 0300 2470050.

Email list

Alerts from the Police and other information (local social events, road works, helpful websites) are circulated via email, usually once or twice a week. Most households in the Watch area now receive these emails, including some whose residents are only here for a year or less (short-term residents are likely crime targets). Please contact us to be added to the list. Email addresses are kept confidential and removed from the list when people move away.

Some recent alerts circulated by email will also be displayed on this page in abridged form, but for full information you should join the list.  Advance warning of social events will only be given via the list.

Police contacts

It is important to report criminal activity - even if you think those responsible are unlikely to be caught - as it could be valuable information, and areas with more reported crime have more resources allocated by the Police. Reports can be made here or by ringing 101.

The Avon & Somerset Police website is at https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/; use the 'Your Area' tab to obtain local information. Crime maps for each month are published online. We are in the Bath Outer (=north Bath) Police Area; the nearby Bath City Centre Police Area now begins at Julian Road.

Beat surgeries

These usually happen every 2 months at St. Stephen's Church on Saturdays, 10am-12 noon.  We're welcome to come and raise local concerns with Police officers (in private if desired) and hear about recent developments. Our local Police Community Support Officer is now Raymond Kelly (raymond.kelly@avonandsomerset.police.uk)  Local councillors from Lansdown ward often attend.

Information in the Neighbourhood Watch messages has come direct from the Police or been verified by us. There are a lot of hoax warnings and 'urban legends' about crime doing the rounds on email, in social media and sometimes in the Bath Chronicle. These rely on people's gullibility and are actually dangerous, because genuine warnings get obscured and ignored. You should run any such warning through sites such as Snopes and Hoax Slayer.

It's good to welcome fresh faces to the street, and at this time of year there are new people moving in.  Some  have already joined the Neighbourhood Watch email list, but if you have new neighbours, do tell them about the list and encourage them to sign up.
